Reflections of 2021: Real Estate + Life

What a year! Another year of COVID and the challenges that it brought with it into our lives, our families’ and friends’ lives, and strains on our businesses. The Bible says in Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose”. Most times when we are walking thru a trial we don’t realize the good God has in the end of the trial waiting for us on the other side of that valley.

Looking back I think of the things I learned in 2021 in the midst of trials. I am sure you have a list also. I learned that with  God all things are possible. As an example, when I thought my business would die because of Covid, I learned to adapt my business to the times and my business flourished and was actually better and bigger than any previous year in my 15 + years of real estate. More importantly than any business I have, I was reminded of what I already knew, the time I spend with my family is the most valuable thing I have in my life.

Thank you to my family for your support.

As a cancer survivor of 16 years I am reminded often of our mortality and the value of every day. I am sure with the losses we have seen in the past 2 years we all are being reminded of that. I have intentionally sought after our Saviour to know Him more and be pleasing to Him, to be a better Mother, better wife, better friend, and better employer.  I have been reminded again of what I already know, people and their stories and lives are more important than any sale or transaction in real estate.

Cheers to 13 years!

Where has the time gone? I can’t believe it’s been 13 years already…..As a stay at home mom all my kids’ school years and coming right out of cancer and chemo…I never dreamed I would be here today! Only with God’s favor, lots and lots of hard work and an incredible supporting husband could I be in this position today. I knew one person when I became a realtor, another realtor and I am not from Laffayette or the Acadiana area. She, of course, did not give me business. It was one client at a time that built my incredible business! It was a stubborn drive in my soul for success and an amazing teacher/mentor, Linda P Myers, and again my amazing husband that continued to encourage me. Never, Never give up on your dreams! Never take No for an answer if you want something! It is a hard business to be in and be successful, so… I want to thank every one who has ever done business with me as a seller or a buyer and please know you made Cindy Bailey Homes what it is today. I will always be grateful and cherish every friend I have made in you all.

Kind of like a birthday month, I am using this work anniversary month to explore stats and thoughts on what has brought me to completing 13 years! Number one is personal to me and the rest are fun facts for you to enjoy!

Tips a Sellers should know going into Closing Day

You have been waiting for someone to make an offer on your property and someone has made the perfect offer! The offer has been accepted and a closing date has been set! Here are a few tips for Closing Day:

  1. Bring a valid and up to date drivers license.
  2. If you are required to bring funds to closing it must be certified funds.
  3. All utilities must remain on until closing day to enable buyer to do final walk-thru. However, make the call to have all utilities taken out of your name as of day of closing.
  4. Cancel your home owners’ insurance and any flood policy you may have. This is not cancelled automatically, but do not cancel before you actually sign the papers to sell. If you cancel before you close and you don’t close on the home for any reason, you would be without coverage.

Tips a Buyer should know going into Closing Day

You have found your new home or investment property and closing day is scheduled! Here are a few tips to successfully conquer Closing Day:

  1. Do not change jobs or make any large purchases prior to closing on your new home. Both of these things could prevent you from closing.
  2. Bring a valid and up to date driver’s license to closing.
  3. Bring certified funds to closing.
  4. Have all utilities transferred to your name prior to closing date to prevent anything being turned off.

Love of History & Romance in Broussard

Originally Nash’s restaurant was home to the Edmund Comeaux family. This historical home was built in Broussard in 1908. The person responsible for converting it to a restaurant was Lee Bobcox in the 1970s. During that time the only changes that were made were the wrap around porch being transformed into a  beautiful glass porch and a commercial grade kitchen was added.

A lot of what you see is in its original state…the wooden floors, the porch shutters, the iron and tile work. The current owners, New Orleans natives Jenny and Nash Barreca, acquired the restaurant in 1999 and are now settled in, making it a part of their everyday lives, loving it’s unique character and rich heritage, and sharing all this with their patrons.

While  sitting down with Jenny I was able to learn about all of her favorite Love stories. The majority of all engagements that have happened at Nash’s include their must have chocolate cake with the ring placed right on top of the cake. 

Can you guess what the most popular Valentine candy is? No surprise here- Hershey’s Kisses is number one! Year after year people make it a tradition to revisit this historical place, even asking to sit at the same table they sat at when they got engaged which makes it even more memorable. Even today this restaurant is making history in people’s lives that will be passed down from generation to generation.

Where do you plan on spending your Valentines night? I know where I will be! And I can only wonder what couple will begin their lifelong love story in this special place on this special night, Valentine’s night!

Hi, I’m Cindy

Allow me to introduce myself…I am Cindy Bailey from the small town of Morgan City.  I am a wife, a mother of three and a grandmother to Luke who has stole my heart and is a huge joy in my life. I have lived in the Lafayette area for 13 years now and started my real estate career 13 years ago when I moved to Lafayette.


Most of my life I was a stay at home mom who loved cooking, cleaning and taking care of my family. I enjoyed playing tennis occasionally and worked part time with my husband. After my children were grown it was time to focus on a new beginning with new challenges.  We were moving to Lafayette and I spoke with a realtor about buying a home here and thought “I want to be a realtor”. I wanted to own my own business, to be out and about meeting new people and every day  to be different. I was moving to Lafayette and that was a new beginning in itself, so why not start a new career! In Morgan City I played a key role in shutting down a hazardous waste incinerator and was elected City Councilman before I moved away. Check those boxes DONE and now on to New Challenges!

My journey to becoming a realtor involved tons and tons of education, day upon day of studying and lots of money for classes, tests and dues to become a realtor. The very first year I was awarded “Rookie of the Year” in my brokerage. Being driven by that success, I was determined to become a Top Producer in Lafayette. I credit my success to God’s favor as I knew no one when I moved here, my awesome husband who was always my encourager and cheerleader, and lots of hard work and long hours. The highest compliment I can ever receive is my clients coming back years later to buy or sell from me again or referring me to their family and friends. That is a humbling experience and I take it seriously. In challenging myself, I sometimes view each day as “never good enough”. I sometimes think what could have I done different, always pushing the envelope forward to get to the closing table and making my clients happier along the way. 

The biggest challenge in my career is micromanaging the many pieces of a successful journey to the closing table while keeping my clients as stress free as possible, this being one of the largest investments of their lives and one of the most stressful times in their lives. When all the moving parts come together it is always the highlight of my week, well, that and when I get to play tennis! There is such personal satisfaction in helping someone‘s dreams come true!  After many struggles and challenges, hard work and dedication, I am humbled and at the same time take pride in knowing that I have met my goal and have developed into a Top Producer and professional realtor in the Acadiana area. I continue to work hard every day to maintain that goal.
